Summer 2012 Series – Week 6

Week was a not-too-busy but still fun week. I’m truly slacking on the crafting and home activities front, unless TV watching counts? No. Didn’t think so :) Here is a quick recap of what we did:

  1. Super fun and quirky birthday party at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens -  I wrote about this unforgettable celebration here. Check it out!Vizcaya birthday party
  2. Free movie & park – Every year we take advantage of the free movies at local theaters. Although the movies are not the latest releases, it’s still a great (and cheap) escape from the summer heat. We saw Alvin and the Chipmunks – Chipwrecked. If you haven’t seen it yet, rent it! Except for the voices (does it only bother me?), the music is fun and the story is entertaining. Here is the trailer. At Regal Cinemas you can still take advantage through  next week. Click here for a list of theaters, times and movie options. After the movies we headed to Doral Meadow Park In case you guessed, this picture is off the internet. I didn’t take my own photos because I was too busy catching up with girlfriends (aka – serious therapy /solving world issues session) but the kids had a great time. Although the playground is shaded, always clean and very well maintained, our kids preferred to practice “gymnastics”, run around the whole park, memorize dance routines, etc. The energy!
  3. Dinner at ZUMA – One of my very best friends was in town with her husband and we went out to dinner to this downtown hot spot. Our babysitting arrangements didn’t pan out as planned so the girls ended up going with us as well. The decor is chic, the service was very attentive and incredibly knowledgeable (I ask TONS of questions – yes… I am THAT person), the food… oh, the food… was AMAZING. I spent the whole meal oooh-ing and aaaah-ing, talking to my bestie, feeling incredibly proud of Sofi for wanting to try every one of the dozen or so dishes, and not taking pictures. Sorry! I will tell you this: visit Zuma soon and try the panko fried oysters. I don’t know the trick, but the oysters were perfectly RAW on the inside of the golden deliciousness!
  4. Birthday party at Jumpin’ Jamboree – a fantastic option to escape from the heat (and a little rain on this particular day). Kids jump and bounce to their heart’s content giving parents a chance to relax in the wonderful A/C.Birthday at Jumpin' Jamboree

Only a couple of weeks left! I hope you are enjoying your families and friends and taking advantage of this magical summer.

Keep having fun,

Celebrating ~ 4th of July

We had a wonderful day for our July 4th celebration. My boys and I gathered with family and friends at the JC Bermudez Park in Doral, for an afternoon of playing, running, talking, eating and enjoying!Sofi, Gaby, Alex and Dani

Tiza, my mom and I prepared (or bought) yummy food: sandwiches, pasta salad, fruit salad, sangria, decorated marshmallows and cookies. Here are a couple of the recipes:

Chicken with avocado sandwiches - I was inspired by a recipe online but ended up making it diferently. I bought sliced roasted chicken at the deli and prepared a  spread with avocado, diced tomato, red onion, salt, peper and a slpash of lime juice. The combination was delicious!Chicken and avocado sandwichChicken and Avocado sandwich

White Sangria - I mixed one bottle of white wine with a can of diet Sierra Mist. I added a shot of Brandy, cubed appples and peaches, a bit of sugar and cheers!White Sangria
